SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Alaska Nanooks will keep dancing in the NCAA Division II men’s basketball national tournament.
Alaska took down the West Region’s top seed Cal State San Marcos, 70-63, in the opening round. Shadeed Shabazz led the way for the Nanooks (13-14) with 35 points, accounting for half of his team’s offensive production.
The Nanooks shot better than 46 percent from the field on the night and out rebounded the Cougars, 42-23, to keep CSUSM at bay.
Alaska will move on to face the West Region’s No. 5 seed, Azusa Pacific, in the regional semifinal on Saturday.
